Tip Tuesday’s Ask an Expert: “What’s the difference between display ads and pay-per-click ads?”
Display ads and pay-per-click ads are often talked about like they’re the same thing, but to the core, they serve different purposes. So what is the difference and which is the right choice for your advertising strategy?
Display ads appear on websites where relevant keywords are matched to the hosting website’s content. Pay-per-click ads, on the other hand, appear on search engine results and are ranked by a variety of factors including keywords, bids, and quality of content on the landing page.
In short, display ads show up on hosted web pages, where pay-per-click ads show up as results in search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo.
Which One Do I Choose?
Depending on your goals, you may want to invest in display and/or pay-per-click ads. If your goal is to increase brand awareness and get your name out there, display ads can do wonders. However, if your goal is strictly to increase sales, pay-per-click ads targeting search keywords will have a greater impact, since they are displayed the minute someone is searching for your service or product. You can run both types of campaigns through Google to see which one does best for YOUR business!
